Once the largest industrial building in the world by total floor area, Salts Mill contains a large collection of works by artist David Hockney and a number of independent shops and restaurants. This former mill was built in 1853 by Titus Salt, a local manufacturer and politician. The historic mill also includes an exhibition narrating the fascinating history of Saltaire, a World Heritage Site that once served as home to hundreds of Salt’s workers. Take a little time to explore the many shops inside the old building, which sell everything from bicycles to antiques. You can also walk or cycle on the canal path, which passes by the mill and is part of the national cycle network. Put Salts Mill at the forefront of your travel plans using our Bradford trip planner.

Excellent shops and a good venue with fascinating art on display. My parents from abroad were very interested. A couple of cafes too.

Wonderful choice of books on art and other matters. Inspirational place. The art is amazing...the gallery space outstanding. Friendly helpful staff (we asked to leave our suitcase as we were staying over and didn't want to drag it round with us). We return annually for gifts, cards etc. And always will

This place was absolutely fabulous. I had no idea about the history of Saltaire and was in awe of it. The video presentation which was roughly 40-50 minutes was hugely informative. There's something for everyone here be it art, architecture, history, eateries, antiques. Well worth a visit. My only regret is that I didn't have enough time to fully take in all the information about the production side of things. You could easily spend a full day here!
