Capital of the North
Unofficially dubbed the Capital of the North, Manchester is known for its influence on industry and music, as well as its world-renowned connection to sports.National Railway Museum and Lakeland Motor Museum will appeal to museum buffs. Your inner history buff will appreciate Lyme Park and Salts Mill. Explore Manchester's surroundings by going to The British Ironwork Centre (in Oswestry), National Trust - Chirk Castle (in Chirk) and York (York Minster, Treasurer's House, &more). There's lots more to do: take in the dramatic scenery at Aysgarth Falls, contemplate the long history of Saltaire Village, explore the world behind art at Blackwell - The Arts & Crafts house, and contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Cartmel Priory.
