Wander down to the harbor to see Sun Voyager, a massive sculpture of a dreamboat. Designed by Jon Gunnar Arnason in 1990, the stainless steel artwork resembles a Viking ship and is dedicated to the sun. The sculpture is close to shore and offers a view of Mount Esja across the harbor. More art installations dot the shore if you continue to walk along the water, but this sculpture is the highlight. • This was my favorite sculpture in Reykjavik. When observed from the right angle it looks like it is floating on the water. I loved the modern materials mated with old Viking boat shape.

  • Just along the shore from Harpa (the concert hall), this free attraction is well worth a visit. There are great views across to the mountains too.

  • While it's a pretty simple steel structure/sculpture, it's perfectly placed along the sea front walk and I would definitely recommend you stop and take it in for a few minutes. The weather wasn't great the day I visited but I imagine the ambiance changes with the weather, sunlight and time of day you're there. Simply stunning backdrop of the North Atlantic and hills beyond too and only a few minutes brisk walk from the town centre.
  • Definitely worth a quick visit, just a beautiful place to see Iceland. Cool modern sculpture that fits the scenic view perfectly. The clean cut design fits the style of the city! But the Brie on a clear day is priceless! Very much worth the walk down to the waters edge.
