Climb the hill to Citadel for a panoramic view of the city, the Danube, and its eight bridges. Built in 1851 by the Habspurgs to demonstrate their control over the Hungarians, this fortress was never used in battle. Climb the winding stairs to the top of the hill or take a bus, taxi, or car and park in the available spots. Plan your visit to Citadel and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Budapest day trip planning app.

The citadel is closed to be renovated. But it is worth to go there and see the beautiful view of Budabest especially at night. There is so dark so don’t forget to have a flashlight in your phone :)

Closed for renovations!! Awesome views though even with the fence in the way. The hike was great, but the grounds are off limits until 2022. Of note, the hike had several homeless people camps...

A nice walk all the way to the top of the hill, in perfect company. Great view to enjoy a sunny day 👌🏾
