Altun Ha, Rock Stone Pond

Visit Altun Ha, the remains of an ancient Mayan city boasting two main plazas and 13 structures, including a temple. You can now climb the taller temple, once an important ceremonial building, and enjoy the view from the altar atop. A market just outside the ruins sells local handicrafts. See the large water reservoir known as “Rockstone Pond,” which is the English translation of the site’s name. Keep an eye out for wildlife, including armadillos, foxes, and white-tailed deer.
