Buckingham Palace, London
Buckingham Palace serves as a splendid reminder of the monarch's continued importance in British culture. If you visit during August or September, you'll have the opportunity to tour the palace's opulent staterooms. The queen receives and entertains guests and conducts special ceremonies in these spaces. Many of the furnishings date back to the 1830s, when King George IV transformed Buckingham House into a palace. On your tour, you'll learn how the monarch uses each of the 19 staterooms, hear colorful history relating to these spaces, and see numerous works in the British royals' art collection. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes, because the tour lasts from 2-2.5 hours and stretches out over 0.8 km (0.5 miles). Photography is not permitted inside. If you visit outside of August and September, you can still watch the changing of the guard outside the palace. Very popular place must visit 5 Star experience in Buckingham Palace. We booked the Buckingham Palace tour months ago so we could see it over the Holiday break. They only offer this tour for a few weeks in the summer and winter when the Royal family is out of town. All I can say was it was worth every penny. The tour feels very exclusive. You enter through the side of the palace, check your coat, and meet up with your tour guides. 3 guides take ~20 people through the palace explaining the rooms, the history, and the artifacts / art within. It was breathtaking and probably the best thing we did while in London. The tour was ~2 hours and at the end they offered us all Champagne and 20% off in the gift store. Its not a cheap tour at ~90 pounds but I felt we got our money worth and saw something few people get to see. Also in the end they walk you out in groups of 6 out the front door of the palace in front of everyone outside the palace gates. A nice touch to end a magnificent experience.
It's a bit crowded even in winter but nonetheless a great experience seeing the change of guard! The snow makes it feel epic. I recommend arriving at least 20min before it begins to secure a good spot.
