The booming city of Bucharest is a sophisticated metropolis with a high contrast of old- and new-world architecture.
Kick off your visit on the 22nd (Thu): admire the landmark architecture of Biserica Stavropoleos, then take a stroll through Old Town, and then listen to music at Romanian Athenaeum. Here are some ideas for day two: tour the pleasant surroundings at Herastrau Park, see the interesting displays at Village Museum (Muzeul Satului), and then contemplate the long history of Hanul Manuc.

Traveling by combination of subway, flight, and bus from Athens to Bucharest takes 5.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of train and bus. Expect a bit cooler temperatures when traveling from Athens in December; daily highs in Bucharest reach 5°C and lows reach -2°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 24th (Sat) to allow enough time to take a bus to Brasov.

With the dramatic Carpathian Mountains as backdrop, Brasov is the largest city in a region of mountain resorts.
You'll discover tucked-away gems like Peles Castle and Bran Castle. Turnul Alb and Yekaterina's Gate are good opportunities to explore the local culture. You might consider the city of Budapest, divided by the Danube River into two distinctive cities--Buda and Pest--to be essentially one large World Heritage Site.
Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Fisherman's Bastion and Heroes' Square. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Shoes on the Danube Promenade Memorial and Castle Hill.
