Capital of the North

Unofficially dubbed the Capital of the North, Manchester is known for its influence on industry and music, as well as its world-renowned connection to sports.
National Railway Museum and National Coal Mining Museum will appeal to museum buffs. Your inner history buff will appreciate York Minster and Salts Mill. Explore Manchester's surroundings by going to National Trust - Chirk Castle (in Chirk), York (Treasurer's House, York City Walls, &more) and The British Ironwork Centre (in Oswestry). There's lots more to do: explore the historical opulence of Knaresborough Castle, see the interesting displays at Lakeland Motor Museum, explore the striking landscape at National Trust Brimham Rocks, and steep yourself in history at Saltaire Village.
