  • The mummy exhibition is basically one room with three mummies and some decorated coffins, some of babies too. You can prolong your time by reading the explanations in English on the wall. They will al...  more »
  • The local (city) museum is divided into several sections. The main part is located at the main square in the city and there are several separate parts. The unique and unbymised experience will provide you with an exhibition in the main museum building, namely in its basement. 25 years ago, during the renovation of one of the local churches, they accidentally ran into a long forgotten crypt beneath the church. In the crypt, ranging from 80 years, they are buried slightly richer citizens of Vaca. At the end of the 18th century, the crypt was walled up and forgotten. Once again, it was discovered that crates were in it in impeccable condition and preserved. And not only they, but their whole content, clothing, jewellery, footwear.... And, of course, former owners of those clothes and jewels. Due to continuous draftions, low temperature and dry air, the bodies of the deceased are perfectly mumuficirala. I don't know exactly how many crates have been detected but the number is impressive. The burials are mostly richer, who could afford it, and there are both half and all life ages: from babies to those in the late years. In the former wine cellar, a wealthy Greek merchant has now exhibited over 20 coffins and three muchies, the crates are painted and appear to have been made 20 days ago, not 200 years. Mumies are a story for themselves.... In the second room in the cellar you can see cruciness, rosary and other objects that the deceased had in their hands, and in the ground floor areas are exposed to wardrobe and several pairs of footwear. It is especially interesting how the children's footwear from that period appeared.

  • Great museum with helpful guides. They can speak German, and English besides Hungarian. The videos were subtitled in English. Interesting place to visit.
  • Awesome little museum! Gives you a bit of 18th c. Hungarian history to put everything in context and then you go down into the basement to see the actual coffins they found and a few mummified bodies (the clothes they are in are not original however). Really worth seeing, especially if doing the Danube River bend trip. Only needs about 30 min to an hour, depending on how closely you want to read everything.
