See the iconic Matthias Fountain, one of the most photographed monuments in the capital city. Located in a courtyard of Buda Castle, the monument depicts Matthias Corvinus, a famed king, and his hunting party. Notice the king's coat of arms decorating the niche above the hunters. The bronze female figure to the right is Szép Ilonka, the young woman the king fell in love with while he was disguised as a commoner. When Szép Ilonka discovered his identity, she decided their love was impossible and died of a broken heart. She is immortalized in the fountain, forever looking at her lover. Matthias Fountain Reviews
Deze fontijn staat in de burcht. Niet zo heel bijzonder, komt zelfs geen water uit. Maak er zeker geen omweg voor. more »This Fontijn is located in the castle. Not so very special, does not even come out of water. Make sure there is no detour.

Neo-baroque work of the early 1900s tells the legend that a girl, falling in love with a young man, when he discovers that he is actually King Matthias, called the Raven (and hence the crows who find themselves a little everywhere in the city) dies of heartbreak. A much-loved royal figure in Hungary, this sculptural group is an essential attraction for the tourist visiting the Castle! @gargio76
Story : the first king of Hungary stands with his deer. You can see to the right hand side the partner of the king grieving for the deer. Several hounds and a man blowing a horn are present showing the effort of the hunt. Other note: meant to be similar to the Trevi fountain and fountains four waterfalls (can you spot them all). Located in the castle grounds.
Nice fountain next to the Buda castle, similar to Italian ones. Nice work of the sculptor.
