Kiraly Baths, Budapest

#7 of 66 in Spas in Budapest
Relax in one of the octogonal pools illuminated by holes in the 16th century Ottoman dome at Kiraly Baths, the city's oldest thermal baths. One of the few baths in the city with its own source of thermal water, this space has remained largely unchanged from its original state, making you feel like you are stepping back in time. The baths, pools, and Jacuzzi are all unisex facilities. Bring your own swimsuit, towel, and flip flops, and store your personal belongings in the secure lockers. Note that children are not permitted at the baths. A visit to Kiraly Baths represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Budapest online vacation builder to plot your vacation.

  • Wherever I go, I try to find thermal spaces: a kind of "passion"... that is to say that I was eager to discover those of Budapest, so beautiful, so famous and in the end.... so galloded!!! After the Gellert, the Szecheny and the Rudas, I went from disappointment to disappointment: that these places were due to be beautiful but that the low-end tourism degraded them!! So, without hope, I went to a final experience at the Kiraly and there, surprise, I felt good, again in these spaces of oblivion of self and serenity that I regularly met on my way. And yet, these baths are well aged, by some aspects, obsolete but what a charm! Here, no bellowing crowds, no filthy vulgarity, clusters of tourists who respect nothing (starting with themselves): just a large central basin under the subdued light of ancient occulus, some basins of different temperatures, a Hammam, two saunas and, at the end... Peace. So, Yes, some will criticize the plumbing of another age, the exterior appearance, somewhat run down, the dressing rooms and the space of massages, an extravagant ugliness... but to spend these moments between these walls filled with history and a lazy languor was a beautiful experience, between decadence and appeasement. I'll go back.

  • Amazing location. Beautiful building that breathed history. Unfortunately, quite dirty.. We were able to get a massage, an interesting experience. Definitely worth a visit, but the overall impression is no more than three stars.
