  • We took the chairlift up and after that it was only a short walk uphill to reach the tower. The limestone tower is just gorgeous and astonishingly entrance was free of charge. What views from the top!...  more »
  • Tourists rarely get here. Although the inhabitants of Budapest like to walk on the green Budai hills (more precisely, the mountains - so they are called here). This observation tower stands on Mount Janoshhead (527 m), the highest in Budapest's administrative boundaries. The tower was built in 1908-1910 and is named after Empress Elizabeth of Bavarian, who climbed this mountain several times in the 80s of the 19th century. The observation deck at the top of the tower has a height of 23.5 meters above ground level. The view from here to the Budai Mountains and Budapest is wonderful. Although the Budai Fortress and Parliament are far away, and if there is haze in the air, good photos will not work. Nevertheless, the place here is excellent, and when climbing Janoshhead I recommend not to use the cable car, and walk on foot in the Budai Mountains.

  • Elizabeth lookout is a place what one can visit at any time of the day, year. It's just beutiful in the morning, in the night let it be spring, summer, winter. It's close to the town with taking bus 21, also close by car or bicycle. The latter takes some effort for sure, as the place is located more than 500 meters above sea level. The view is spectacular to all directions. Parliament, Danube all the way along the city with one sight. One thing is needed though: nice, clear weather.:)
  • Amazing view of all of Budapest, the Danube and surrounding hills and even some neighbouring villages. It's free to go up and there are several levels. The structure itself is quite interesting as it has double staircases, so you don't have to bump into people coming down on your way up. The tower (a monument to Empress Sisi) was designed by the same architect of the Fisherman's Bastion and had to be rebuilt several years ago because it suffered structural damages after the communist government crowned the tower with a star.
