Spanish Synagogue, Prague

4.4
Colorful stained glass and elaborate Oriental motifs decorate the interior of Spanish Synagogue, the newest of the six Jewish synagogues in Prague. Built in the second half of the 19th century and considered the crown jewel of the city's Jewish quarter, the building is an outstanding example of the Moorish Revival architectural style. A pair of domed turrets tops the central section of the building's tripartite facade, making this one of the most recognizable structures in the city. Visit the upper-floor prayer hall to see an exhibit narrating the history of Prague's Jewish community, and containing thousands of items representing the work of many generations of goldsmiths from Bohemia and Moravia. • It is located in Prague's Josefov Jewish Quarter, 6 blocks away from the Old Square. Its facade stands out for its Moorish style, and its construction dates from the nineteenth century (although in the same place there was another ancient synagogue, from the Twelfth century). Inside it stands out its stucene decoration of the walls and vaults; and inside there is also an exhibition that presents the history of the Jews in Bohemia and Moravia.

  • Something further from the rest and the Jewish cemetery, it was built on the site of a Jewish oratory known as "the old school". Its name is given by its Mudejar style, some of the Jews expelled from Spain took refuge here.

  • Very splendorous, without words to describe this church. There is a very strong religious air inside. Everything is geometrically perfect. It's worth visiting . Sacred place for the Jews. (07/2017).
  • A Prague must-see! This is one of the most ornately beautiful places of worship I’ve ever had the privilege to visit. There is a wealth of historical data and objects, all carefully curated. The carvings and hand-painted details are exquisite, even by the standards of lovely Prague. If you do a tour of the synagogues in the Jewish Quarter, make this your last stop!
