Manneken Pis, Brussels

2.3
A curiously famous landmark, Manneken Pis depicts a small bronze boy urinating into a fountain. The history behind the statue is contested, with several different legends surrounding the naked boy. Brussels artist Jerome Duquesnoy designed the sculpture in 1619, but because of many thefts over the years, the original statute today sits in the Maison du Roi/Broodhuis in Grand Place. Just a short walk from the main square, you'll know you're getting close when the souvenir shops feature larger-than-life versions of the landmark sculpture. At only 61 cm (24 in), this small sculpture has garnered huge attention, even having a chain of French-fry shops named after him. The little boy is dressed regularly in the attire of an organ builder, mayor of Brussels, and judo practitioner. Visit his female counterpart, Jeanneke Pis, squatting in a street nearby. • A little disappointed.... I was expecting a bigger sculpture..... we were told that the statue would be disguised especially in the run-up to Christmas... it was not.... Damage

  • Nothing special, just a little figurine. And wherever you go, you see souvenirs with this little wiener, meaningless.

  • It is a very tiny figure to be honest. Lot of people are standing around it, so the flair gets kind of lost. Somehow equal to the Mona Lisa experience in the Louvre. Across the place is a waffle house with a huge Manneken Pis. Definitely easier to take a picture of plus you have delicious waffles on the pic as well.
  • I must say I expected a little more the first time I saw him, but overall he is the famous little guy from Belgium. I also really like it when he gets dressed and still pees through his zipper 😅😅
