Heeresgeschichtliches Museum, Vienna
Learn about Austrian military history from the 16th century to 1945 at Heeresgeschichtliches Museum. Built between 1850 and 1856, the museum is a testament to the empire's military victories and leaders. You can explore one of the world's largest collections of bronze cannons, which are arranged outside the museum. Enter the museum through the tomblike Hall of Generals. Four large halls house collections devoted to different periods of Austrian history. Do not miss the car in which the Archduke Francis Ferdinand was assassinated. See the uniform he was wearing, the assassination pistol used by Gavrilo Princip, and the sofa on which his body was displayed. Heeresgeschichtliches Museum Reviews
Üblicherweise wenig besuchtes Museum in Wien, zu Unrecht, denn es gehört zur Geschichte des Habsburgerreiches. Inkludiert die blutbefleckte Uniform von Erzherzog Ferdinand. Schiffsmodelle, Waffen etc.... more »Usually little visited museum in Vienna, wrongly, because it belongs to the history of the Habsburg Empire. Includes Archduke Ferdinand's bloodstained uniform. Ship models, weapons, etc. Should not be missing during any visit to Vienna.
Потрясающая экспозиция по Первой мировой войне. В России, как мне кажется эту тему стараются вежливо избегать, а тут в Вене большой размах. Куча интереснейших экспонатов от формы и наград, до мортиры ... more »A stunning exposition of the First World War. In Russia, as I think this topic is trying to politely avoid, and here in Vienna a large scale. A lot of interesting exhibits from the form and awards, to the muzzle with shells and personal belongings of soldiers. You can take 2-3 hours. If you download the free Wi-Fi audio guide, then probably all 6. The rest of the themed halls seemed less interesting to me. Probably because I do not know anything about the history of medieval Austria and me this topic is not close. In the yard of the museum stands tank equipment. Unfortunately, we have already come out when we realized that we missed the tanks from the view. I had an American helkat to picture because of the fence. Be careful.
Spectacular, especially the World War 1 exhibits. Starting with the treaties around 1869, that exhibit walks you through the period to 1918 and the Armistice. The 1600 exhibits were excellent with an extensive armor collection. WW2 was covered with an 88 mm Flak gun and a fascinating collection of propaganda from the 30s through 1945.
Fantastic galleries and exhibitions. Set in a beautiful building, this museum was inexpensive and well worth the trip (worth paying the additional €2 to take photos.) The Hall of Heroes is architecturally stunning. The history was well presented with a an interested audio guide App. When visiting December 2018 the WW1 Exhibition felt new and really well presented. Would recommend. Cafe on site too.
